All you need to do is press options, then force update before logging in to Minecraft. You don't really need to down;pad any extra software.

Yes, I've done this twice now. I keep forgetting that it is the actual 1.8 that is out and not the prerelease, which you would't have to download the old jar file for.
PM me if you need the old jar file, I have it.

The only reason I voted 'no' was because i didn't need to downgrade. I have 2 computers, 1 is 1.8, the other isn't updated. 8)

To re-iterate... always always always treat non official downloads with caution, jar files are essentially zip files that contain anything from java code to exe's... be careful if you don't want to nuke your granny into next week or grow a third eyeball etc....

so then go there http://www.mediafire.com/?zhj5ew9p106bjbk
its a mcluncher
download and run it
then..... find a icon (download more jars)
click on icon where is  /show all/
then get what you need (beta - 1.7.3/
wait for it to download ( its only download jar file)
then close all "Ć tuff" you opened
run mclauncher
type usarname, password, and click on black triangle and choose beta - 1.7.3
and then  - login

this is one way to do, and if you did update your jar, so there is no way to get it downgrade legally or so...

The actual Windows EXE is clean (scan link). However no idea about the mac/linux versions and/or any of the files it downloads. Being honest, its totally up to you if you use it. I am not going to remove the link as the link/software itself is not illegal. Whereas using it to download the Jar's will most probably be a bit dodgy...

I personally have never really understood why Mojang do not keep an official previous versions link, would be quite beneficial to the community and help alleviate suckers downloading malicious files.

Hey Guys, the much simpler way to do this is just to switch out the jar files.
Here is the Link.
[mod edit]Do not directly link to copyrighted material - idi[/mod edit]
Simply go to your %appdata% (application support for a mac) folder, go to minecraft, then go bin, take out your old jar file (SAVE IT!!!) and then put in the one you downloaded. Mod free no glitches.
